TikTok: My Journey

I first downloaded TikTok when the COVID-19 pandemic hit and sent all of us college students home in March of 2020. I was pretty bored and tired of scrolling on Instagram and Snapchat when I decided to download it. It took me a while to have a “for you” page that was actually tailored to me, but once that happened I’d was on TikTok all the time. I learned a bunch of trending TikTok dances during quarantine but didn’t post any. When we all returned back to college in the fall, I soon realized that TikTok was taking up too much of my time. I would be on it for 3 hours every night and then go hang out with friends, leaving no time for me to do my homework. I ended up having to delete the app because I had so much to do. I redownloaded it this past summer because I assumed I would have less to do as a senior. However, it turned out that I’m actually a little better at managing my time now. I only average about 1 hour and 20 minutes a day and can balance my classes with my internshi...

ONU Social Media Workshop 2023

On March 24, I attended the 2023 ONU Social Media Workshop. There were plenty of interesting speakers to listen to, so I will give you all the main points of these presentations that I found stuck with me. The first speaker was a man by the name of Steven Miller. He graduated from ONU with a political science degree, but now works at Disney World with the marketing team. He instructed us all to be open to any possibility and to continue saying yes to all good opportunities being given to us. He writes the Disney Parks blog and through this experience realized that if you start writing something, you can always edit it later. From this presentation I learned to have hope, use my emotions to convey experiences to others, and most importantly to be authentic. His speech was truly inspiring, but I expected nothing less, coming from an employee of one of the most magical places in the world! The second presentation was done by two employees of Airstream. From this presentation, I learne...

Social Media Advertising

Social media advertising is very important for a business to do. After reading chapter 3 about social media advertising in the book, Essentials of Social Media Marketing , by Michelle Charello, I have some things that I learned, that I would like to share. To successfully advertise and catch the consumers attention, businesses will use what is called the ad funnel. It starts off by sparking awareness, whether that’s through a video on Twitter, an infographic on Instagram or even a blog/article online. Then it funnels down into sparking interest in the product/service by throwing in a customer testimonial (gets you to trust them), case study or a webinar. The more information they give you about a product, the more likely you are to consider it. No one likes to be out of the know. Finally, they get you to take action. This could be from a free trial, demonstration or a coupon. Most people love discounts or things that are free, so that’s when you get hooked. To be able to properly...
