How to Market on LinkedIn

LinkedIn’s users are primarily business professionals and those in college searching for a full-time job. Connecting with people on LinkedIn is an easy way to stay in touch and find out more information on what others do for work. Many businesses have LinkedIn pages and job recruiters frequently message those they think would be a good fit for the company.

I use LinkedIn to share my achievements, skills, activities, and prior work experience. I get contacted by recruiters often urging me to apply for various jobs. I’m connected not only with fellow college students, but those I have worked with at Rea and Associates and business professionals that have accounting experience in the greater Cleveland area (where I am from). I’ve reached out to many asking for insight on navigating the job search in the accounting world and have found that many are quick to reply and offer advice. I get ads for accounting firms, companies in my area and even data analytics software programs. These ads tailor to me very well as I am a senior accounting major. I even get ads for various master’s programs for accounting. I have only made one post so far and that was to thank Rea and Associates for hiring me as an intern this past summer and also to thank those that helped me get settled into working and answered all my questions.

According to the Essentials of Social Media Marketing textbook by Michelle Charello, the most relevant content for users was content that helped them stay informed about news in the industry they work in, stay informed on the latest news from companies of interest and informed of current trends in the workforce. To come up with ads tailored to specific users, a target audience must be established. To do this, LinkedIn uses an algorithm and pairs ads based on the amount of work experience and education a user has. It also uses demographics such as age and gender and their interest to determine what the user would like to see show up on their feed. Most businesses can utilize this social media platform for advertising by tapping into the business logistics and hiring sides of their company. Putting out ads that make people want to work for and learn more about the company are most beneficial. Inserting a “call to action” link is imperative because it increases engagement with the company.

I’d have to say LinkedIn is probably one of the easier platforms to use for marketing because users have a lot of information about themselves on their profiles, which is public knowledge. They also might be more willing to learn about the company in case they want to work there sometime in the future. I think this app is a great way to reach out to those in your industry and makes it so much easier to find the job you’d like. Networking is a great tool and unlike most social media platforms, LinkedIn is almost solely made up of those who want to further their career and excel in their specific industry.

The Music I Listen To

I grew up listening to music. My parents and grandparents always had Christian, 80s, Irish and Elvis Presley playing. They had music playing while making dinner, cleaning and even while we just hung out around the house. I started playing the piano in 5 th grade for my church and I started playing clarinet in my school band in 6 th grade. I would have to say that playing instruments gave me a lot more respect for those that play instruments and sing for a living, it’s not easy. As for my personal preference of music growing up, I listened to 2000s pop, Christian and the collection of songs that my parents listened to that I enjoyed. I had a pop phase in the 2010s and then an alternative and indie phase when I was a senior in high school until I was a sophomore in college. Junior and senior year of college I listened to alternative rock, 80s rock and most recently phonk. For those of you who don’t know, phonk originated from Memphis in the 1990s. Now that I am about to graduate colleg...

My Favorite Foods

There are many foods I enjoy and for this blog post I’m going to try to rank my top five. I love going out to restaurants and trying new foods, but these food combinations are tried and true. Thai Fried Rice: This food is heavenly. I could eat Thai fried rice every week for the rest of my life and not get sick of it. This is hands down my favorite food of all time. I used to enjoy Chinese fried rice until I tasted Thai. I think it has to do with the seasonings and spices they put in it. I always get my Thai fried rice with chicken because I’m allergic to shrimp. I’m getting allergy tested the second week of June to see if I outgrew my allergy and if I did, I might have a new variation of fried rice to try. Thai Jasmine in Lima, Ohio is my favorite Thai restaurant ever, it’s a must visit.       Steak, mashed potatoes, and green beans: This is a classic combination. You can get it at any steakhouse, but my favorite place to get it is at my house. My dad uses a propane grill...

Debunking Twitter

Hi everyone! Keeping up with the theme of informing you all about what I’ve been learning in my class’s textbook, I will be writing this blog about the innerworkings of Twitter’s algorithm, format and how I feel about the usability of this form of social media. I had Twitter my senior year of high school to keep up with sports events in the high school I went to and my friends. I didn’t follow any businesses. I deleted it and recently redownloaded it 3 years later to see if anything had changed and it hadn’t too much. According to the textbook, “Essentials of Social Media Marketing” the algorithm relies on ranking signals such as recency of the tweet, relevancy (involving keywords), engagement (likes, comments, retweets), the number of followers of the user and location relative to the specific user. Most tweets I’ve seen on my feed were from those I follow, from where my hometown is and those accounts that many people follow (like Elon Musk). Now that I’ve downloaded Twitter again, I’...
