Pinterest: An App Full of Aesthetic Pictures

Pinterest is one of my favorite social media apps because there’s no pressure to create your own posts. You can if you’re feeling creative, but there’s already a plethora of pictures on the app to look at. For those of you that don’t use Pinterest, you can “pin” pictures you find interesting to “boards”. All the pictures you “pin” will be saved to your home page and to organize them, you can rename the “boards” and save pictures that you find in the future to them. The Pinterest algorithm relies on what you’ve previously pinned and shows recommendations based on what it thinks you would like to look at and what’s popular with similar users on the app. What’s nice about Pinterest is that if you find a recipe or activity you’d like to learn how to do, there’s almost always a link to the website in the post information.

As of right now, my Pinterest feed is full of collages and pretty scenery. What I like about Pinterest is that you can search up almost anything and find so many pictures/websites that pertain to the topic you searched up. I’ve attached a screenshot of my current feed below.

The picture in the bottom left corner of my screenshot shows an ad for Chamberlain coffee, which is Emma Chamberlain’s coffee brand. She is a famous Youtuber and has a very successful business. I’d say Pinterest is an underrated advertising platform. Businesses can promote ads that will show up on people’s feeds. Putting a nice picture on the post and linking to a business website can be very beneficial to finding new customers. The ads I’ve seen have been camouflaged in with the rest of my feed. It never feels like they’re taking up space or time away from my browsing. I’ve seen ads for CoverGirl, CVS and even Huntington Bank!

In conclusion, Pinterest is an underrated marketing platform that more businesses should utilize. However, it is fair to say that Pinterest appeals to a largely female audience, so there isn’t much of a market on this app for men’s clothing or razors for example. Any businesses planning to purchase ads on this social media app should keep this information in mind.

The Music I Listen To

I grew up listening to music. My parents and grandparents always had Christian, 80s, Irish and Elvis Presley playing. They had music playing while making dinner, cleaning and even while we just hung out around the house. I started playing the piano in 5 th grade for my church and I started playing clarinet in my school band in 6 th grade. I would have to say that playing instruments gave me a lot more respect for those that play instruments and sing for a living, it’s not easy. As for my personal preference of music growing up, I listened to 2000s pop, Christian and the collection of songs that my parents listened to that I enjoyed. I had a pop phase in the 2010s and then an alternative and indie phase when I was a senior in high school until I was a sophomore in college. Junior and senior year of college I listened to alternative rock, 80s rock and most recently phonk. For those of you who don’t know, phonk originated from Memphis in the 1990s. Now that I am about to graduate colleg...

My Favorite Foods

There are many foods I enjoy and for this blog post I’m going to try to rank my top five. I love going out to restaurants and trying new foods, but these food combinations are tried and true. Thai Fried Rice: This food is heavenly. I could eat Thai fried rice every week for the rest of my life and not get sick of it. This is hands down my favorite food of all time. I used to enjoy Chinese fried rice until I tasted Thai. I think it has to do with the seasonings and spices they put in it. I always get my Thai fried rice with chicken because I’m allergic to shrimp. I’m getting allergy tested the second week of June to see if I outgrew my allergy and if I did, I might have a new variation of fried rice to try. Thai Jasmine in Lima, Ohio is my favorite Thai restaurant ever, it’s a must visit.       Steak, mashed potatoes, and green beans: This is a classic combination. You can get it at any steakhouse, but my favorite place to get it is at my house. My dad uses a propane grill...

Debunking Twitter

Hi everyone! Keeping up with the theme of informing you all about what I’ve been learning in my class’s textbook, I will be writing this blog about the innerworkings of Twitter’s algorithm, format and how I feel about the usability of this form of social media. I had Twitter my senior year of high school to keep up with sports events in the high school I went to and my friends. I didn’t follow any businesses. I deleted it and recently redownloaded it 3 years later to see if anything had changed and it hadn’t too much. According to the textbook, “Essentials of Social Media Marketing” the algorithm relies on ranking signals such as recency of the tweet, relevancy (involving keywords), engagement (likes, comments, retweets), the number of followers of the user and location relative to the specific user. Most tweets I’ve seen on my feed were from those I follow, from where my hometown is and those accounts that many people follow (like Elon Musk). Now that I’ve downloaded Twitter again, I’...
